Travel Apps to help organize your life and time
Ahh…. Travel apps. So
many to choose from, but who has time to search around for the best ones?
This week, KIE has compiled a list of some useful travel apps
to help you organize your life and use your time for what you really need to
do.
Like that report that your boss just
asked you to submit within 48 hours....
1)
TripIt from Concur
Concur is one of our online booking
systems, and they have partnered with TripIt to automatically organize all
information booked on Concur. But the
good thing is, even if you don’t have Concur, you can still download the app.
Here is how it works.
When you book your travel itinerary, TripIt
automatically takes information from the confirmation emails sent to your
email, and organizes the information for you.
So, for example if you sign up with johndoe@gmail.com for your TripIt account,
and if your confirmations are sent to johndoe@gmail.com,
then TripIt automatically pools the information together to organize your
itinerary. Even if you don’t get the
confirmation sent to your main email, as long as you forward the information to
plans@tripit.com, TripIt will put it
together into your “travel plan.”
This way, you will never have to make your
own travel itinerary or have to worry about things such as “what time was my
taxi?” or “what time was my meeting with my client?”.
You can also manually put in information or
forward your calendar itinerary to plans@tripit.com
so that the information is all together in one place.
Here is a sample.
2)
PackPoint
Ever worry if you forgot to pack anything
for that business trip?
What if you’re going from Atlanta to
Chicago in the middle of January and don’t know if you’ve packed enough warm
clothes? Did you remember to apply for
your visa on your trip to China?
When you enter the destination, dates of
travel, type of travel (business or leisure—or both!), and select activities
and types of clothes you will need, PackPoint checks the weather and your activities and creates a custom packing list
made just for you.
Now you’ll never leave worrying “did I
forget my work pants?”—because you already checked it off the list when you
packed it!
3)
MiFlight
Now you can check on how long the security
line is at the airport before you leave.
This crowdsourcing app creates data collected from real travelers to
show how long the security line is at the airport so you can prepare ahead of
time.
4)
Smart Traveler
The Smart Traveler app was developed by the
US Department of State to help US citizens and nationals in case of emergencies
such as natural disasters, civil unrest, and to better assist in case of
stolen/lost passports overseas.
Once travelers sign up on the app, they
will be able to receive important information about safety conditions in the
destination country, help the U.S. Embassy contact them in case of an
emergency, and help family and friends get in touch with you more quickly in
case of an emergency.
